Accessing Rula's mandatory HIPAA training

Rula treats patient privacy at the highest level of integrity and holds all therapists to the highest quality standards. To ensure we're living up to this promise, we require all providers to remain compliant with the annual HIPAA training that Rula offers.

Initial HIPAA Training Compliance Course

The initial HIPAA training is nested within the Rula 101 therapist onboarding course, which you must complete before seeing your first client at Rula.

1. There are 2 parts to complete: 
   1. HIPAA Part 1 
      1. This module includes a general HIPAA privacy and security overview. It defines Protected Health Information (PHI) and contains ample real-world examples.
   2. HIPAA Part 2
      1. This module discusses some of the details regarding putting the law into everyday practice!

HIPAA Refresher Training Course

All providers who work with Rula must also complete an annual HIPAA refresher course. Approximately one year after you've onboarded, you'll be automatically assigned to complete this content and will receive an email to log in and start it.

Access the HIPAA refresher course 

You’ll access the Fraud, Waste, and Abuse General Compliance course from the Rula learning hub. To get there, 

1. Log in to the Rula provider portal
2. Navigate to the Resources tab
3. Click Visit learning hub
   
   
   
   
4. Navigate to the “Compliance Courses” page
   
   
   
   
5. Click the HIPAA refresher for therapists course (pictured above) to be taken to the course home page. Then click Start to begin the first module. 

Completing the refresher course

1. This course contains one video and one knowledge check.
2. Within the first module, you’ll click Next at the top or bottom of the page to progress through the course.
   
   
   
   
   
3. Click Submit at the end of each knowledge check within the module to check your answers. If you’d like to retry, you can click Retake Questions instead of clicking Next once the knowledge check is complete.
4. When you reach the end of the course you will see this screen. Click Finish to complete the course.
   
   
   
   
5. You can then click Certification Overview to view your course completion certificate.
