This article explains how to view the insurance plans you accept in the Rula provider portal and clarifies why the list of insurances shown there may differ from what appears on your public or client-facing profile.
Viewing your accepted insurances
You can easily see which insurance plans you accept from your Rula provider portal:
- Click Profile in the left-hand menu.
- Scroll down to the Practice details section (the third box from the top).
-
Look for the Accepting header - your accepted insurance plans will be listed there.
Important note about insurance lists
The list of accepted insurance plans shown in your Rula provider portal may look different from the list on your public or client-facing profile — but this is expected and does not mean there’s an error.
Your provider portal groups insurance plans under their broader Network (the umbrella category), while your public profile lists all individual plans within those networks to make it easier for clients to recognize their insurance provider.
For example, if you’re a therapist in California:
- Your public profile might list: Aetna and Aetna – Medicare Advantage.
-
Your provider portal will display only the Network name: Aetna.
Another example in California:
- Your public profile might list individual plans like Blue Shield of CA, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Excellus, Independence, Premera, Regence, BCBS Federal Employee Program (FEP), Capital, CareFirst, Highmark, Wellmark, and Florida Blue
-
Your provider portal will show just the Network name: Blue Shield of CA.
Here’s a detailed example using the Optum Network in California:
| Insurance Network (shown in provider portal) | Insurance plans (shown on public/client-facing profile) |
| Optum | Optum |
| Oscar | |
| UMR | |
| United Healthcare | |
| Western Health Advantage | |
| Sutter Health | |
| All Savers | |
| Oxford Health Plans | |
| Sierra Health and Life | |
| United Healthcare Student Resources | |
| United Healthcare – Medicare Advantage | |
| Optum – Medicare Advantage | |
| Alignment Health Plan – Medicare Advantage | |
| Medica | |
| Ventura County Health Care Plan |
So, even if your provider portal only shows Optum, rest assured that your public profile will display all of the individual plans associated with the Optum network — helping clients more easily find and confirm their coverage.
Visual Example: How insurance lists appear in each profile
To make this difference even clearer, here’s an example of how your accepted insurance plans may appear side-by-side in your Rula provider portal versus your public or client-facing profile.
In your Rula provider portal, insurance plans are grouped by their broader Network. For example, you might see something like this:
Meanwhile, your public or client-facing profile lists all individual insurance plans within those Networks, making it easier for clients to recognize their coverage:
As you can see, even though the lists look different, they’re showing the same coverage — just grouped and displayed in different ways depending on the audience.
